"Afternoon Wine" 8x10

"Market Day" 14x18

Every day is Market Day in Nice where these ladies were selling some beautiful vegetables.  At noon the square transformed into outdoor restaurants serving wonderfully flavorful meals.

"Service with Dignity" (9x12)

Visitors to New Orleans will recognize the location of this painting.

Morning Coffee (12x16)

This painting won 2nd place in the 9/27/13 juried show at the Wimberley Valley Art League.  The juror, Victor Pagona, wrote: "I really responded to the painting of Connie Schaertl titled 'Morning Coffee'. I liked the color sensitivity and the brush work, but I was captivated by the strange bold composition, like a snapshop taken at the wrong time. I laughed out loud at the boldness of the painting. Who organizes a painting like this? Well, Connie does and we are all the better for it."  (From my viewpoint, the hidden diner is irrelevant, the waiter and his work are the subject of the painting.  The jewel bedecked customer must not distract from his activity.  She is only a prop in the "story".)

"The Gatekeeper" 8 x 10" SOLD

Model and new owner, Staci Gibbs.

"Co-creating" 16 x 20"

When we bring our own creativity to viewing art, we can experience many levels of pleasure, humor and contemplation dependent only on our willingness to imagine.

"Critics" 16x20"

I've been having such a time trying to photograph my paintings, especially the ones with bright red in them Something about red blows out the color balance and shouts too loudly.  Neither photo accurately shows what I see when I look at the painting.

Bluebonnets Dancing in the Sun (8x10)

I did this with my easel facing the windows at Bent Tree Gallery and poor overhead light on the panel.

A couple of weeks later, I turned my easel around so that the natural light from the windows
lit the panel and helped me brighten the bluebonnets.
I'm not sure which version I prefer.

"Spring Flowers" 8x10

This painting was done under bad lighting and the result was so drab
that I decided to brighten it up under better light.

"Winter Picnic" 16x20

This is a repeat of a painting I did years ago when I was using acrylics.

Between Shifts (11X14)

The sculpture in this painting seems to cause some confusion, so
I've simplified the composition by removing it.

Sheltered Bluebonnets (11X14)

I bowed to Springtime pressures to paint bluebonnets and did this last Saturday while
minding the Bent Tree Gallery.
